It’s time for the rulings of the Tony Awards committee to begin causing the controversy they often do. The first reports on Playbill (see here and here) say that most rulings for 2010 have been “consistent with the opening night credits” and list the few exceptions to that principle.
Of course, now that the “Special Theatrical Event” category has been discontinued, we get great decisions like this one: Burn the Floor will be considered eligible in the “Best Musical” category. How nice. Now it can duke it out with Sondheim on Sondheim for a nomination or a win – only problem is, neither show should be in that category to begin with.
