NEWSFLASH: GHOST for Broadway?

GHOST

To purchase the Original London Cast Recording of GHOST, click on the image above.

So after decidedly mixed reviews in London and a complete slate from Ben Brantley in The New York Times, who says that Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard’s score is the ‘aural equivalent of a Stairmaster’, the producers of Ghost are looking to bring the show to New York, which might be a smart move – says Michael Riedel – for a show like this in what has proved to be a weak season for new musicals thus far.

I have no concrete feelings about the show (which features a book by Bruce Joel Rubin, the screenwriter of the film upon which it is based) either way at this point, but the things I’ve read about the show make it seem as though it still needs a fair amount of work to be as good as it is popular. At least, I hope the tap-dancing ghosts are gone by the time the show transfers to the Great White Way…

RIP Tom Aldredge

American television, film and stage actor Tom Aldredge has passed away from lymphoma at the age of 83. A wildly prolific actor, he will always be remembered by musical theatre fans for originating the roles of the Narrator and Mysterious Man in Into the Woods and of Doctor Tambourri in Passion. His death comes only six months after that of his wife, the famed costume designer, Theoni V. Aldredge.

Rest in peace.

NEWSFLASH: Darren Criss to SUCCEED on Broadway

Darren Criss

Above: Darren Criss

So, according to Deadline, it looks like Darren Criss will take some time off Glee to succeed Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which features a score by Frank Loesser and a book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert. Two Harry Potters in the same role – what fun!

I only recently made the connection between A Very Potter Musical and Darren Criss, something which fleshes out his Glee pedigree to some extent. Given his experience, Criss might work better in the role than Radcliffe, although I’m pretty sure he won’t have quite the same drawing power at the box office, despite his popularity in Glee.
