Life of a Song: “Love Changes Everything”

One of my favourite performances of the song was delivered by Audra McDonald, who sang “Love Changes Everything” as part of a mash-up with “Unexpected Song” (delivered a radiant Marin Mazzie) and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” (performed by an unfortunately deadpan Judy Kuhn). This thrilling medley of these songs can bee seen on the DVD of the My Favorite Broadway: the Leading Ladies concert.

Every song that has multiple cover versions has at least one version that is a little out there. When Nana Mouskouri recorded the song, she recorded her soprano vocals with an accompaniment characterised by the synth sound that was so popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some might say that it sounds like a cray cray pseudo Enya knockoff. They’d be right.
