I always enjoy seeing the performances on the Tony Awards. It’s true that sometimes Tony Award performances are a hot mess, but it is always interesting to see what producers think will sell their show best to viewers in the USA and, through international broadcasts, around the world. It’s no surprise that “Love Changes Everything” was selected to represent Aspects of Love at the 1990 Tony Awards – a performance that is sadly not available on the Broadway’s Lost Treasures DVDs, a series that was sadly cut short due to this nasty little legal wrangle.
Sarah Brightman, once married to Lloyd Webber, has an enduring connection to the composer’s work owing to her performance as the original Christine in The Phantom of the Opera. After their separation, she appeared in Aspects of Love, her last musical theatre role before embarking on a solo career that has taken some interesting twists and turns, for instance her recent commencement of space training as she plans for a journey to the International Space Station in 2015. This clip looks back to an earlier time in her career where, fresh-voiced, she take on a song by her then recent ex-husband.
